Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) Tourist Facility, located at Stokes Hill Wharf Darwin is offering an extension to 8:00pm of their regular opening hours so that guest are able to spend some time with us to discover some incredible stories of Bombing of Darwin history and the heroic tales of the birth and growth of the RFDS.
Overview of the RFDS Tourist Facility
Two Iconic Territory Stories One Iconic Location.
The facility experiences are self-guided, there are always staff available to assist and answer any questions. We recommend one and half hours to experience everything in the facility.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service:
Using the latest innovations in holographic technology, the life size hologram cinema experience, John Flynn is portrayed by an actor who tells the story of Flynn’s’ vision and its realisation into the RFDS of today.
Experience a decommissioned RFDS Pilatus PC 12 aircraft completely aero medically equipped and learn about the activities of the RFDS’s pilots, engineers, doctors, and nurses, and the experiences of the patients that are carried and cared for each day.
The Bombing of Darwin Harbour
The second iconic story featured is the Bombing of Darwin on 19th February 1942. The bombing of the harbour brought destruction to the city of Darwin, and many of the experiences and stories of what happened that day through the most modern and exciting technology. This new and exciting world-class facility feature’s never seen before cutting edge technology – a hologram cinema experience telling the story of Etheridge Grant, virtual reality and a projection window of the Japanese air attack on the harbour.
Additionally, there is a life-sized replica Japanese Zero aircraft suspended from the ceiling.

Following the tour of the Royal Flying Doctors Service Tourist Facility delegates are encouraged to spend the evening at Stokes Hill Wharf.
The historic Stokes Hill Wharf offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with a choice of casual restaurant dining, specialising in fresh local seafood and steak. All food and beverage is at your own expense.
Stoke Hill Wharf is located approximately 600m from the Darwin Convention Centre (10 – 15 minute walk).
A complimentary shuttle bus is available from the rear car Park of the Convention Centre or from the Vibe & Adina Hotels, please indicate when registering if you will require transport.
